Figure-ing it out

Bad puns aside - Just some doodles to try and get my figurative gestures stronger. Artists tend to almost have a signature like figure they use for scale or some such. These were done without reference but my recent sketchbook work has come in very handy for this

New York - Apocalypse

Another matte/speedpaint thingy.

EDIT - Added a few more elements. Sods law, you think of these thing just as you nod odd to sleep

London's Apocalyptic

Mixture of a speedpaint and matte paint

The morning after the night before

Okay, so I didnt recoil in horror at last nights effort. In an effort to keep the ball rolling here is my lunchtime offering. I guess the aim of these are to imply detail rather laboriously define it and try and make something more atmospheric.

like a one night stand

Ive boshed an image together forcing myself to rush it (less than an hour) and also forcing myself not to think too much and to keep loose. Im posting this up though I fear I will regret it in the morning when I look at it again. Artistically speaking this is 1.45 am and I'll be damned if Im going home alone. Lets hope I wont be too shamed in the morning.

EDIT - slight amendments that were pointed out but did niggle at me !!

Step by Step

Im not usually one for documenting my work process as A) I dont feel like Im an authority on it and B) it changes as I dont believe in a rigid approach (stop sniggering at the back) This was an exception as I was having to do it in bite size chunks i.e. 45 minutes at lunchtimes. The first are 45 min sessions and the final one was about 2-3 hours.. not quick looking at it like this but with numerous stop starts its bound to draw it out more than it should.

As a piece, Im rather ambivilant about it, it kind of tells me nothing and due to the extended authoring process some of the excitement was bound to subside. Still, its neat enough I guess.

feeble

I've been quiet of late as Ive had other things on the go so this'll have to do at the minute. I've got to get back on it.

New homepage

Just a quickie to let ya'll know my homepage has been revamped.

sketches! sketches?..we don't need no stinking sketches!..okay maybe we do

Victorian Sci Fi Mashup

Here is a random design idea I had, I may explore some more possibilties with this type of thing.

Mucha of a muchness

Another sketch/paint in a similar vain to the warrior one below. Definately evolved from what I was going for, but I went with it. I dont think it has the volume the warrior one has but the palette is quite nice I think. Has a Mucha art nouveu quality to it.

Character - Warrior painting/sketch

Recently I've taken stock of my work and for one reason or another I'm a little light on character work so in an affort to strengthen that aspect I'll be doing some! Im trying to find my style currently.

Giving a duck!

Ive neglected you of late..please accept these meagre offerings as way as a temporary apology. I do have a couple of character pieces on the go so hopefully they'll make an appearence soon.

new pen... again

The old egyptian swamp monster chestnut

I've got a little more time on my hands currently so I thought I'd spend a few hours doing something. This kind of just happened.

Guilt

More of these I'm afraid. I'm starting to feel guilty about constantly posting this type of thing up yet again but they are all I have time to do at the minute and they keep my 'hand in' plus they are better than nothing I. oh and BTW that is a very creepy guy

If you cant be good...be stylized

Here's a couple more. One raw and one, well I was just tinkering about to see if I could do anything clever with.. no was the conclusion.

Nothing to see here

not been 'feeling it' this week but carried on regardless. I may give these a treatment at some point. I have nothing else to add..

GRAFFIK!!

In the last couple of days I've been looking at more graphic design type inspiration. So rather than posting up another set of sketches I thought I'd give them a treatment of sorts. I think they look good considering the took all of a couple of minutes. Certainly wouldnt look out of place on the wall of your local Pizza Express :). I think we'll be seeing some more of this type thing.

Selected Zoo Efforts

Please excuse the lack of blurb to go with the sketches. In the last post I wrote a whole thing about studying a subject but blogger is rubbish and didnt allow me to copy and paste within itself so I lost it. Anyhooo.. here are a few more sketches from the zoo
